DigitalOcean integrates AMD Instinct MI350X GPUs into cloud offering

Cloud computing provider DigitalOcean (NYSE: DOCN) has announced the addition of AMD Instinct MI350X GPUs to its cloud platform, marking a significant upgrade for its customers working on generative AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads. The company also revealed plans to deploy AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs and liquid-cooled racks in the next quarter.

The AMD Instinct MI350X GPUs, built on AMD’s CDNA 4 architecture, are designed to enhance performance for complex artificial intelligence workloads. These GPUs offer higher inference request density and support for larger models and context windows, providing a boost to AI applications. According to DigitalOcean, earlier optimization efforts with AMD Instinct GPUs resulted in a 2x increase in production request throughput and a 50% reduction in inference costs for Character.AI, a company leveraging their platform.

ACE Studio, a music creation platform, is also utilizing this new GPU configuration to power its AI workloads. Highlighting the potential of this technology, Vinay Kumar, Chief Product and Technology Officer at DigitalOcean, said, "The availability of the AMD Instinct MI350X GPUs, combined with DigitalOcean’s inference optimized platform offers our customers a boost in performance and the massive memory capacity needed to run the world’s most complex AI workloads."

The GPU Droplets powered by the AMD Instinct MI350X are now available in DigitalOcean’s Atlanta Region Datacenter. Customers can take advantage of usage-based pricing, along with enterprise-grade service-level agreements (SLAs) and compliance certifications, including HIPAA eligibility and SOC 2 compliance.

DigitalOcean’s strategic partnership with AMD builds on previous collaborations, such as the AMD Developer Cloud launch and earlier deployments of MI300X and MI325X GPUs. With more than 640,000 customers globally, DigitalOcean positions itself as an AI-focused cloud platform, catering to the growing demand for advanced AI workloads.

This latest integration signals DigitalOcean’s commitment to providing cutting-edge infrastructure for developers and organizations prioritizing AI-driven innovation. The expansion of GPU offerings is expected to further solidify its position in the competitive cloud computing market.
